Kansas City Pregnancy Clinic & Mercy and Truth
|
The Respect Life Office is excited to announce the opening of Kansas City Pregnancy Clinic (KCPC), conveniently located at 721 N. 31st Street, in downtown KCK, approximately one mile east of State Ave. & I-635, in the Mercy and Truth Medical Building. This facility is currently home to several other life-affirming services that will accrue to KCPC simply by virtue of its location, including Mercy and Truth Family Care Clinic, New Birth Company’s KCK Birth Center, and the administrative offices of Nativity House KC Maternity Home. KCPC will address two current critical issues -- there is no longer a pregnancy help center located in the central core of the Kansas City metro area and Planned Parenthood has announcement they hope to open a regional abortion facility soon in downtown Kansas City, KS, to more-easily target low-income and especially-vulnerable populations.
The interim executive director, Dona Kelsey, has over ten years of experience in the role and has already begun collaborating with other PRCs in the Diocese of KC-St. Joseph and the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas. KCPC's volunteer medical director, Dr. Brendan Mitchell, MD, is a board-certified OBGYN and has served hundreds of women in the immediate area through the years. |
KCPC expects to be a low-cost-structure, high-client-volume pregnancy clinic effectively delivering high-quality life-affirming services. The opening of KCPC coincides with "Working with Mom’s in Need: A Year of Service", a bold new initiative of the U.S. Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities, which launched on March 25, 2020, Feast of the Annunciation of Our Lord, and 25th anniversary of St. John Paul II’s encyclical, Evangelium Vitae (Gospel of Life).
Over the past ten years, the Respect Life Office has strongly encouraged our faithful to support their local PRC(s) and this should absolutely continue. In order to avoid potentially diverting funds and volunteers from our current PRCs, we have initiated the following focused activities:
Over the past ten years, the Respect Life Office has strongly encouraged our faithful to support their local PRC(s) and this should absolutely continue. In order to avoid potentially diverting funds and volunteers from our current PRCs, we have initiated the following focused activities:
- Communications to Pastors and Parish Respect Life Coordinators within a radius of only a few miles of KCPC's planned location, many of whom will be members of our faithful targeted by Planned Parenthood.
- Engage community social service partners that either already provide support to the Respect Life Office and Human Rights Office, or with which we have already begun working as we expand the Gabriel Project ministry in 2020.
- Collaborate with other Chancery Offices and other Catholic organizations with which we already partner on pro-life initiatives (Family Life, Catholic Schools, Youth, Young Adult and Campus, Catholic Key, Knights of Columbus, etc.)
- Communication via "The Annunciation" office newsletter and Facebook page
