"Walking with Moms in Need: A Year of Service"

Picture
"Walking with Moms in Need: A Year of Service" is an exciting, parish-based initiative to assist pregnant mothers in need.  The year-long USCCB program officially began on March 25, 2020, the Feast of the Annunciation and 25th anniversary of Evangelium vitae (The Gospel of Life), given to the Church by St. John Paul the Great.

Archbishop Naumann, Chairman of the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities, has invited all U.S. bishops to encourage their parishes to work with their respective  diocesan Respect Life Offices to learn about resources available in their area and to plan and implement a parish response.

Since 2006, our diocese has been blessed with a thriving Respect Life Office -- leaders, volunteers and community partners working closely to assist pregnant mothers in need.  Throughout this time, we have also been blessed to have strong partnerships with both Catholic Charities of KC-St. Joseph and the Archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas Pro-Life Office, with whom we have collaborated on many programs, activities and events in this area.  We will continue to do all the work that is currently being done, but we will also be introducing the activities and events below during the next year as part of our permanent local "Walking with Moms in Need" program.

USCCB Parish Resources

For "Walking with Moms in Need: A Year of Service", the USCCB Committee on Pro-Life Activities has developed a Parish Action Guide  that includes educational, pastoral, prayer, and action-oriented resources for parish use:
  • Planning resources for parish-based activities
  • Homily helps
  • Suggested prayers
  • Bulletin inserts
  • Pulpit announcements
  • Communications and outreach suggestions
  • Reflections on the teachings of Evangelium Vitae (The Gospel of Life) and other documents of the Holy Father such as Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel).

All of these are posted on the USCCB Walking with Moms in Need website and will be available in both English and Spanish.

“Catholics must be committed to the defense of life in all its stages and in every condition”
